Amanda Maalouf, tell us a little about you?

Well I am a 20 years old female singer from Lebanon, a country from the Middle East. I mainly sing Occidental music. And I also love a lot of different music genres from oriental to rock and jazz music. Each style gives me a different mood and maybe that is why I like living in an Arab country such as Lebanon.

So how are you keeping busy and musical these days during this Covid-19 pandemic?

I wake up everyday with nothing to do, so what I do is I try to have fun and enjoy my time at home as much as I can. I mainly practice the piano and the guitar, do some homework for college, read a book or watch a movie, spend time with my family and dog…

Who has made the biggest impact on your life so far, and why?

Well, my older sister was supporting me since I was a child. She was and still is always by my side and gives me all the emotional support that I need. And I also have a wonderful boyfriend and music partner who helps me and encourages me at everything that I do.

Did you go to music school?

Well as a child, I did not go to a music school, my family isn’t musical, so I didn’t have nor a piano nor a guitar at home. I started studying music at 15, as I took the decision. So I enrolled in the Lyrical singing program in the Lebanese Conservatory of music, not knowing what it actually was but I just needed to study music in any possible way. After 2 years or so, I didn’t found myself in the Lyrical singing so I left the conservatory and started my own research online. At 17 I began to take Guitar lessons and with that some theory and I was also taking private Modern singing lessons with one of the best coaches in the country. At 18, I entered college , USEK, under the financial and actuarial mathematics program, since I sing Occidental music and in an Arab country it is not really something to rely on so I needed a plan B, and I also started to take my piano lessons at Usek school of music and that’s when I took al music courses professionally.

When did Amanda Maalouf start singing and performing?

I started singing since I was a 9 years old child at a choir and in church mainly. And I kept on practicing and imitating my favorite artists, because I knew I had it since then. At the age of 16, I met someone in the industry whom I started to work with in hotels and restaurants and then I began having a lot of contacts in the entertainment industry. So I started performing in private events and at the best clubs in town at the age of 17 18.

Now tell us, do you have any original song? or do you plan to do any?

I don’t. I sometimes feel like writing so I do but I have no official original song, and In the mean time I’m not planning to have any since I’m in an Arab country it is very hard to fit in the Occidental market with such a small audience for it. And besides I don’t have a production.

Do you have plans to play out live a lot this summer in support of your new music?

I live in a country who’s in an economic crisis actually, I don’t know how much I’ll be able to perform live this summer. 🙂

Who would you love to work with in the future? Who are some of your favorite artists right now?

No one in particular. As I mentioned before, I already have some work and plans for the future with my boyfriend who is also an amazing musician. Now on an international scale I have a LOT of favorite artists and each one of them inspired part of me. Like Beyoncé, Christina Aguilera, Bruno Mars, Diana Krall, and so many other artists.

How would you describe your fashion style?

Well I think I would describe it as a bit weird. That’s all.

How’s a typical day in your life?

As I mentioned before, what I do on a daily basis is practice music, study, read,  spend time with my lived ones, and of course before the Covid-19 and the economical crisis in Lebanon, I used to go to college and of course had a lot of performances and gigs, mainly on weekends.

What’s next for you? What can we expect of Amanda Maalouf in 2020?

Amanda doesn’t know what to expect from Amanda in 2020. I mean this year was full of surprises for us, specially in Lebanon. But I know for sure that even at home I am progressing and maturing a lot as a person , an artist and a musician.
